About Paddy McCann

Born in Cladai, County Armagh, in 1963, Paddy McCann received his MA in Fine Art from the University of Ulster in Belfast in 1989; he is amongst Ireland's most critically acclaimed contemporary painters.

"He expands the collaboration between narrative and abstraction. His paintings are often autobiographical with the subject matter grounded in his personal experiences and colour is used powerfully to transfer an intensely personal emotional response to universal western ethical values. Both figurative fragments and abstraction forge a net that catches multiple possibilities of meaning while not departing from the painter's own truth."
